The company was started in September 2001 when founders Mr Lum Kin Wah together with Mr Chan Lim Yan remodelled the survey company, L Y Chan Consultancy Pte Ltd that was formed 5 months earlier by Mr Chan to do H&M; insurance survey, into a engineering specialist services provider dealing with Tribon 3D modelling for new building production information.
With special emphasis on the company’s main core business in computer-aided design and computer-aided machine activities, the company was later renamed Marine Cadcam Pte Ltd. Formation of Marine Cadcam Pte Ltd was made possible after the securing of the Tribon Software Privilege Scheme that enabled free use of its licences on condition of payment of levies on fees earned. The scheme was secured for a 5 year period.
Marine Cadcam main office was set up in Singapore at a Jurong Tuas workshop working on marketing & contracting, Tribon modelling and engineering drafting work. The main core business activities from the initial period up to now, remains to be Tribon modeling & production information work,
and over time, we have gone on to do design work.
We now have our main office in Singapore, and a production centre in Batam through the wholly owned PT Marine Cadcam Indonesia. The Batam office was initially runned by a senior partner who owned part of the Batam office, and together with four staff members. Shortly after, our Argentinian friend Frederick Cooke was assisting us as a consultant. A wide range of engineering design work and Tribon modelling work of small marine crafts consisting of 28m tugs to 50m catamaran to 75m Ocean going supply vessel to 30,000DWT tanker were contracted, allowing Marine Cadcam to grow and build up various expertise.
Marine Cadcam Pte Ltd entered into the business of offshore structures using Tribon modelling at the end of 2003, and from then on it was the main business of the company. By July 2006, Mr Chan had acquired all shares of Marine Cadcam Pte Ltd and PT Marine Cadcam Indonesia
from Mr Lum and the third shareholder, when the company went up for sale due to the need for more cash injection as the Free Tribon Licence scheme came to an end in September 2006.
At the end of 2006, there were two major offshore structures Tribon modelling in hand that required more manpower, staff strength in the Batam office grew to 45 while the Singapore main office is headed by Mr Chan, as Mr Lum had resigned from the Board of Directors to concentrate on his work in PT Batamec on the end of February 2007.
At the start of the company, our strength lies with Mr Lum Kin Wah and Mr Chan Lim Yan who were both naval architects by training
and together had more than 55 years of experience in the marine industry found the company. Both of them started their marine training in Keppel Shipyard as an apprentice in the early 1970s.
Marine Cadcam Pte Ltd is currently headed by Mr Chan, and they are supported by a team of staff at our Singapore main office, and a team of Indonesians led by Mr Akhmad and our experienced Mr Fredrick Cooke at our Batam production centre PT Marine Cadcam Indonesia respectively. The team members are young, ambitious, delegated and are all well trained in Tribon Solutions software, GPIPE, XSTEEL and other engineering computers softwares.
